- שָׁקוּטm. (שקט, Shaf. of קט; cmp. קטט, קוט) (cut short, 1) stubby, abnormally short. Ned.66b שמא … ש׳ הוא is her neck graceful? It is too short. Tosef.Bekh.V, 1 צוארו שמוט וש׳ whose neck is abnormally long or abnormally short; Bekh.43b, expl. דחביא מיחבא, v. חֲבֵי; v. שָׁמוּט. 2) abruptly bent, angular. Ib. VII, l (43a) שראשו ש׳ (Misb. ed. שקוע) he whose head is angular, expl. ib. b ש׳ מלפניוּ shaḳuṭ refers to the front of the head (the forehead receding abruptly).
